An Applied Spreadsheet Approach to Estimating Software Reliability Growth Using the Gompertz Growth Model

Software Reliability and its subset, Software Reliability Growth Models, are widely discussed in technical journals and texts. However, actual details on implementation and use of these models are typically lacking. This paper, by an analyst for analysts, summarizes the methods of evaluating SRGM’s for selection as a Software Engineering Environment tool, provides sufficient information to implement the model through use of a computer spreadsheet such as Excel or Quattro Pro, provides some introduction to analysis of the model’s results based on some sample data, and lists some possible enhancements to the model for interested analysts.
